  • In general, the applicant’s head, including both face and hair, should be shown from the crown of the head to the tip of the chin on top and bottom and from hairline side-to-side. It is preferable that ears be exposed
  • Sunglasses or other wear, which detracts from the face, are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons (an eye patch, for example).
  • A photograph depicting a person wearing a traditional facemask or veil that does not permit adequate identification is not acceptable.

General Requirements
Application Form: One visa application form No BI-84 to be filled in completely and signed by the applicant. black ink and block letters
Passport: Valid for at least six months with a minimum of 2 blank visa pages available. Copies of the first two and last pages of the passport are required. If Applicant has traveled to South Africa before, a copy of the previous visa must also be enclosed.

Proof of Accommodation: Copy of confirmed hotel reservation directly from the hotel in South Africa with exact check-in and check-out dates, Day to day tour itinerary (places the Applicant intends to visit).

 

Proof of hotel booking, (verifiable) stating the name, passport number of applicant(s) and duration of visit, physical address, as well as contact details of the hotel as well as authorized signature’s name, designation and signature;

 

 

Ø  If applicant is going to visit Friends or relatives in South Africa than consulate will require Rental agreement copy of South Africa or Light bill or Telephone bill.

Ø  Certified copy of the host’s ID or copy of residential status, (permanent residence permit or work permit).

Ø  Reference/introduction letter from Indian employer. Letter must have the physical address, as well as contact details of authorized signature’s name, designation and signature;

 

a.      A day-to-day itinerary/travel plan covering your stay in South Africa.

 

An Invitation by a resident in South Africa: Passport copy of the invitee/sponsor (if the invitee is not a South African citizen than a copy of valid residence permit is required) Copy of the Registration of residence in South Africa Rental Contract or Proof of Ownership. If the Invitee is a citizen of South Africa then a copy of the invitation letter from the sponsor/invitee mentioning full name, nationality, address, contact no., passport copy, ID card with Identification No., Relationship with traveler And the traveler’s purpose of visit and duration of stay. A copy of the sponsor’s bank statements (bank transaction details) of the last 6 months and other financial documents to confirm their financial credibility.

 

  • Letter of invitation from the South African organizers/hosts/companies stating the name, passport number of applicant as well as purpose and duration of visit. Letter must have the physical address, as well as contact details of the host and host’s/authorized signature’s name, designation and signature (Host ID copy attested by commissioner of OATHS needs to be submitted if required by SAHC). Invitation letter must be on institution/organization letterhead.

 

 

 

Air Ticket: Confirmed onward/return air ticket.
Personal Financial Documents: Original Bank Statements of the last 6 months (original with bank stamp) Income Tax papers of the last 3 years, Salary slips for the last three months.

 

Proof of funds (Last 03 month’s bank statement signed and stamped on each and every page by the bank with a balance of INR 60,000 for Delhi which is equivalent to foreign exchange worth USD 1000 and minimum INR 20,000 for Mumbai which is equivalent to South African Currency R 3000.

Parental Consent Affidavit ( ATTACHED FORM )

 

1.      Documents such as Parental Consent Affidavit form for which the link is below, passport copy of parents as well as child + Unabridged Birth Certificate of child must be carried for Parental Consent Affidavit procedure. In case of death of either parents death certificate has to be produced. In case of death of both parents the procedure has to be carried out by legal guardian at Mumbai Consulate and death certificates mandatory of both parents to be produced. In case of divorce the legal divorce documents has to be produced.

1.      Affidavit less than 3 months old as part of the application. Originals should be kept for their records while travelling Minors who apply for a South African visa at VFS service-point shall be required to submit the attested copy of Parental Consent to South Africa.

1.      If unabridged birth certificate is in local language than English translation affidavit must be produce along with local language unabridged birth certificate.

 

Proof of Employment: No objection certification from the organization confirming the leave status. Salary slips for the last three months.
For Students: A permission letter from school/college confirming the leave for specified period of travel.

Parent NOC: A minor accompanied by one of the parent should also produce a no objection certificate by the other parent duly Notarized by the Home Department is mandatory. If the spouse’s name is not endorsed on the passport, the original marriage certificate has to be legalized by the Home Ministry.

 

Children under 18 must provide a notarized ‘no objection certificate’ from any non-accompanying parent authorizing their travel to Australia along with copies of the parents’ passports.

Consent to grant an Australian visa to a child under the age of 18 years.

Children under 18 years of age: For children (under 18 years of age) who intend to travel to Australia, and whose stay in Australia will not be in the company of either or both of his or her parents or guardians – Form 1257Consent form to grant an Australian visa to a child under the age of 18 years. Parents and guardians should also submit certified copies of at least one signature verifiable document such as a passport or drivers licence.

 

Polio vaccinations

 

On 5 May 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General declared the recent international spread of wild type polio virus to be a ‘public health emergency of international concern’ under the International Health Regulations (IHR). Ten countries, listed below, have been identified as having suffered recent outbreaks of Polio.

 

If you are from one of the countries listed below, or have spent 28 days or longer in these countries on or after 5 May 2014, we encourage you to have a polio vaccination prior to departing for Australia. Having the vaccination will also assist in eradicating the spread of polio.

 

To obtain maximum benefit in assisting with the eradication of the spread of polio, it is advisable to have the vaccination at least 4 weeks prior to your travel.

Other RequirementMedical Requirements:

 

1. An Overseas Travel Insurance policy is required, for travelers 75 and older, and will have to undergo a medical test.

 

2. If visiting someone in a hospital in Australia, you have to undergo a medical test prior to travel, irrespective of your age.

 

3. If Applicants stay is for more than 3 months at a stratch. The medical test will be done only from the consulate appointment panel of doctors.

Passport Requirements:

Original passport and one photocopy of information page. The passport must be signed, valid for 6 months beyond stay in China and with at least two blank passport pages available.

Houston: If the applicant is requesting the visa to China to be issued on a second passport, the Consulate of China in Houston requires the applicant to submit both the original and second passports. The Consulate will not issue a visa on a second passport unless the original passport is provided.
San Francisco: Travelers with passports issued after January 1, 2015 must include their previous passport along with their current passport when applying for a visa. Make sure to remove any external stickers or protective covers from your passport. The Consulate will only accept passports with their original covers.

China Visa Application Form:

One signed visa application form. Every question on the application must be answered, please answer NONE if the question does not apply to you. Applications must be typed in block capital letters; handwritten changes are not accepted. The signature on the application form must match the signature on the applicant’s passport.

The Consulate of China requires a visa application be completed according to strict guidelines. Make sure your documentation is accurately prepared by making use of Document Preparation Service. Photo Requirements:

One color photo that meets the following strict criteria: taken within the last six months, against an all white background, printed on high-quality photo paper, 48 mm tall x 33 mm wide exactly, provide the full frontal view of your head with your face centered in the middle and displaying a neutral (non-smiling) expression, eyes open, ears visible, no background light or shadow over your face, neither eyeglasses nor headwear except for religious purposes, you should not wear any garment identical to the photo background, your photo should not be affixed to your application and it may not display evidence of adhesive tape or staples

Los Angeles: Same criteria apply with the exception of the dimensions: 2 inches tall x 2 inches wide exactly

Other Forms:

New York: Travelers who have visited Turkey in the past must provide a signed copy of an affidavit giving the exact dates and purpose(s) of every trip make to Turkey, Kazakhstan and Pakistan. Dates must match all entry/exit stamps in the traveler’s passport and all trips mentioned on the visa application form. The affidavit is found in your application kit

Letter Of Invitation:

A photocopy of the roundtrip airline ticket and hotel reservation or a cruise ticket may be submitted instead of the official invitation from China.

An Invitation Letter for Tourist Group or Invitation Letter for Tourist by a Duly Authorized Tourism Unit, or Invitation Letter issued by companies, corporations, institutions and individuals in China. If the invitation letter is issued by an individual in China, the photocopy of the ID of the individual is required. If the invitation letter is from a Non-Chinese citizen, the ID must be a copy of the valid passport, and a copy of legal status in China is required. If the inviter in China is a relative of the traveler, they must provide legal documentation proving family relationship, such as a birth or marriage certificate.

A letter of invitation must explain the relationship between the host and the applicant and must include detailed information about the applicant, including full name, gender, date of birth, and passport number. The letter must also state the purpose of visit, where the applicant will stay, and the date of arrival and departure from China. The letter must indicate who will be responsible for the cost of the applicant’s accommodations in China and information about the inviting host: name of the unit or individual, phone number, address, and if applicable, seal and signature of the legal representative.

Los Angeles:

To fulfill the tourist visa invitation requirement, you must provide:

  • A copy of an official letter of invitation from a governmental agency or individual sponsor. If you obtain a letter of invitation from an individual sponsor in China, the invitation must include the following:
    • Your name, gender, date of birth
    • Purpose of applicant’s visit
    • Date of arrival and departure
    • Places to visit, specific names of cities required
    • Details of your flight itinerary and hotel reservation
    • State who will bear the cost of the applicant’s lodging while in China
    • Information on the sponsor: name of the unit, phone number, address
    • Copy of your sponsor’s passport information page
    • Copy of your sponsor’s national ID
    • Copy of your sponsor’s Chinese visa (if legal resident of China)
    • Have company or organizations seal/stamp

Note: If your invitation is from a non-governmental sponsor your letter must include your job title/occupation, passport number with issue and expiration date. The relationship of the applicant and sponsor must also be stated. If the individual inviting you is in China on a work permit then you must provide a copy of the inviter’s residence permit. The invitation may be a copy, fax, or printout but the Consular office may request the original.

  • A copy of your round trip airline ticket and hotel reservation (if your Invitation letter is from an individual in China)
  • Itinerary and Airline Confirmation (if part of a tour): A copy of your day by day cruise itinerary or if on a tour, your tour itinerary including hotel information for each day. In addition you must provide a copy of your confirmed airline reservations showing all segments of your flights from state of residence in the U.S. to China and returning to the U.S. to your state of residence. Your itinerary and flight information must include your full name as it appears on your passport

San Francisco:

If the applicant is using a confirmation or itinerary provided by a US company or US based tour operator, it can not mention a Chinese based tour/ground operator. If the Chinese based tour/ground operator is generating the itinerary it must come directly from the Chinese company.

Proof of State Residency:

Houston: A clear photocopy of driver’s license or state issued ID. The address must match the address on the Chinese visa application form. If the applicant will be departing for China from a different state than the state of residence, then the applicant must provide a signed letter in addition to the flight itinerary. The letter must explain why the applicant is starting the journey from a different state and how the applicant will be returning to the applicant’s home state.

Washington, DC:

You must provide a proof of your current address of residency. The document must either be a copy of the front and back of your driver’s license or government ID, or a utility bill. The document must:

  • Display your name as it appears on your passport
  • Display the current residence address as provided on your visa application

Please note, if you must submit a utility bill the consulate requires electric, gas, or a water bill; phone and cable bills are not accepted.

Job Description:

Houston: Brief job and company description; this is in addition to the business letter and invitation. The descriptions do not have to be on a company letterhead.

Government employees: Must submit a job description letter from the applicant’s employer with the visa application. For example, if the applicant works for a local fire or police department, then submit a letter from the fire or police department. All letters must display the applicant’s full name and be written on official letterhead for the specific department or agency that the applicant is employed with.
New York: If the applicant is currently self-employed, a brief profile of the company and a job description must be submitted. This informal, one-paragraph letter should offer a short description of the company as well as list the applicant’s job title and a brief explanation of the job. This letter is not required to be printed on company letterhead.

Proof of Travel Arrangements:

Computer generated flight or cruise itinerary or copy of airline tickets or cruise ticket showing round trip travel to China or onward flight.

Houston: Your flight information, hotel confirmation, cruise and tour itineraries must show your full name as it appears in your passport. You must provide one of the following:

  • If visiting China via air, a copy of your round trip airline ticket and hotel confirmation(s). or
  • If visiting China via cruise, a copy of your day-by-day cruise itinerary. You must also include hotel confirmation(s) if not staying overnight on the ship. or
  • If on a tour, you must include your tour itinerary, plus a copy of your hotel confirmations and airline tickets. or
  • A copy of an official letter of invitation from a governmental agency or individual sponsor. If you obtain a letter of invitation from an individual sponsor in China, the invitation must include the following:
    (1) Your name, gender, date of birth (2) Purpose of applicant’s visit (3) Date of arrival and departure (4) Places to visit, specific names of cities required

Details of your flight itinerary (you must include proof of these travel arrangements along with the letter) State who will bear the cost of the applicant’s lodging while in China Information on the sponsor: name of the unit, phone number, address, copy of sponsor’s passport or ID Have company or organizations seal/stamp

New York:Itinerary/copy of ticket must show the round trip itinerary starting from the home country (USA or Canada) to China and returning to the home country. It must show paid in full, or the payment receipt must be attached.

San Francisco:Applicants requesting rush processing must provide a flight itinerary showing departure to China within 3 business days.

Washington, DC:Hotel confirmation is not required. Proof of round-trip itinerary is sufficient.

Hotel Confirmation:

Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles: An official invitation or a copy of confirmed hotel and/or cruise reservation(s). If staying in various hotels, please provide copies of each reservation.

New York: An official invitation or a copy of confirmed hotel reservation, tour itinerary or cruise itinerary; which must show paid in full or payment receipt must be attached. The applicant’s name must be listed on their hotel reservation.

Criminal Record:

New York: Travelers with a past criminal record are required to make a personal appearance to submit an application. This includes DUI, DWI, and similar offences.

Applicants Under the Age of 18:

A child (under 18) must be ready to present their birth certificate upon arrival and, unless traveling with both parents or a legal guardian, must also have copies of parents’ passports. If passport copies are not available for parent(s) then a parental letter of consent.

Chicago and New York: For a minor, (under 18), a copy of their birth certificate and a photocopy of parents’ passports. If the parent does not have a passport, then a parental letter of authorization may be accepted instead.

Houston: For a minor, (under 18), a copy of their birth certificate and a photocopy of parents’ passports or letter of parental authorization may be requested.

Los Angeles:

Minors under 12 years of age must include an original birth certificate and one photocopy.

Minors over 12 years of age must include a photocopy of their birth certificate.

All minors must include a photocopy of the photo ID of both parents. Minors traveling with only one or no parent must include a notarized consent to travel letter from the parent(s) that will not be accompanying the minor on the trip.

Both parents should sign page 4, section 4 and 5 of the Chinese visa application form.

San Francisco:All minors under the age of 18 traveling to China must:

  • Provide a copy of their birth certificate
  • Provide a copy of both parents’ driver’s licenses or state IDs (if the minor does not have a state ID)
  • Provide a copy of both parents’ passports
  • Provide a copy of the parents’ proof of U.S. residency status (if not U.S. citizens)
  • Provide a notarized letter of consent from both parents (if the parents are not accompanying the minor on the trip) that states the child has permission to travel.
  • On page 4 of the application, both parents must complete and sign sections 4 and 5.
  • Above the signature at section 4.3 the parents must write the minor’s name as it appears on the passport.

Washington, DC: All minors under the age of 18 traveling to China must:

  • Provide a copy of their birth certificate
  • Provide a copy of both parents’ passports or drivers’ licenses
  • Provide a copy of the parents’ proof of U.S. residency status (if not U.S. citizens)
  • Provide a notarized letter of consent from both parents (if the parents are not accompanying the minor on the trip), that states the child has permission to travel. To access a sample consent letter, follow the link provided in the visa application kit or type the address into your browser
  • On page 4 (part 4) of the application, both parents must sign Part 4 and print the name of the minor
  • On page 4 (part 5) of the application, one parent’s information must be filled in and that parent must sign part 5

Letter of Employment :

Applicants who are self-employed must include a brief letter addressed to the Chinese Consulate containing the company profile and job description. This is an informal letter and should be included with your visa application.

Residency Status:

Copy of U.S. Permanent Resident Card or valid visa. US visa holders should have original I-94 (or I-20 I-797, DS – 2019 depending on US visa status) stapled to their passport.

Chicago: U.S. Permanent Resident Card copies must be notarized.
Houston: U.S. Permanent Residents must submit the original and one copy of Permanent Resident Card.
Los Angeles:

You must provide proof of your current U.S. Immigration status. You must include one of the following:

  • A photocopy of the front and back of your U.S. Residence Card (Green Card)
  • A photocopy of the current U.S. visa and I94 information

New York and San Francisco: U.S. Permanent Residents must submit the original and one copy of Permanent Resident Card if requesting rush processing.
Washington, DC: You must have at least 6 months validity remaining on your immigration paperwork or Green Card in order for us to try and help you obtain a visa.

Previous Visa:

Houston: Applicants who have previously traveled to China must provide a copy of the previous Chinese visa. If the visa was issued to a previous passport, a photocopy of the canceled passport’s information page must also be included. If you had a previous China visa, but no longer have the passport in your possession, you must include a statement letter addressed to the Consulate to explain.

New York and San Francisco: Applicants who have previously traveled to China must provide a copy of the previous Chinese visa. If the visa was issued to a previous passport, a photocopy of the canceled passport’s information page must also be included.

Country of Origin:

Applicants of Chinese origin, (born in China), must include a copy of a previous Chinese visa or their last original Chinese passport. Make sure the Chinese Name field is completed on the Chinese visa application form in Chinese characters.

Los Angeles: Applicants who were born in China or Taiwan Applicants who have never had a Chinese visa before, you must provide the following in support of your visa: (1) You must write your name in Chinese characters on question 1.2 on the visa application form, (2) A copy of your birth certificate and a previous Chinese passport, (3) If you are a minor who was adopted from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Macao you must also include a copy of your adoption papers (4) A copy of your U.S. naturalization document

The Chinese Consulate may request an additional form for first time visa applicants Applicants who have had a previous Chinese visa should write your name in Chinese on question 1.2 of the visa form must send the passport containing your previous Chinese visa/s Applicants who were born in Hong Kong or Macao:If you have never had a Chinese visa before, you must apply in person at the consulate for a Chinese Travel Document/Travel Permit.
San FranciscoPrevious Travel to Turkey or Turkish Nationality: If you have traveled to Turkey in the last three years, are a Turkish national or a former Turkish national, you must provide a complete travel itinerary detailing your visit(s) to Turkey for the last three years. You must indicate every entrance and exit date and time, and must sign the document. An original document is preferred however a clear copy is acceptable.
Washington, DC: If you are a former PRC passport holder or were born in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Macau:

  • You must write your name in Chinese characters for question 1.2 on the visa application form
  • You must present copies of any previously issued China visas in your current or expired passport, as well as the expired passport
  • If you have never been issued a China visa you must submit your original passport and birth certificate showing your name in Chinese characters
  • If you are a minor who was adopted from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Macau you must also include a copy of your adoption papers (do not include the original papers)
  • If applicable, include a copy of your naturalization papers and U.S. birth certificate.

Special Instructions:

Travel to Hong Kong or Macau: Visiting Hong Kong or Macau is considered leaving China. The applicant must obtain a multiple entry visa if leaving Mainland China to visit Hong Kong or Macau with the intention to re-enter the mainland before finally departing from China.

Media Professionals: or employees of a media company, even if the applicant is not traveling for business purposes, the applicant must submit a letter from the applicant’s employer on company letterhead indicating that you are NOT traveling on company business and will NOT be performing any media related work.

Houston:
Travelers with Previous Visits to Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Pakistan: Travelers who have visited Turkey in the past must provide a signed copy of an affidavit giving the exact dates and purpose(s) of every trip made to Turkey, Kazakhstan and Pakistan. Dates must match all entry/exit stamps in the traveler’s passport and all trips mentioned on the visa application form. A sample of the affidavit is found in the kit.

In Person Appearance:

Los Angeles: The consulate of China may request that applicants come in person to the consulate for an interview and/or fingerprinting. This is a random process and we will not know if you have been selected to appear in person by the consulate until they notify us when we return on the scheduled date they provide, to check the status of your visa. We will notify you if the consulate is requesting that you appear in person in support of your visa, as soon as we are made aware.
New York: The Consulate of China requires all visa applicants wanting a Non-Business Visit (F) visa provide biometric information in person at the Consulate, specifically fingerprint scans, as part of the application process. You must send your completed documents to Travisa for us to review, where we will ensure that your application is ready to be submitted. Once your documents have been reviewed for accuracy by one of our visa experts, you will need to collect your application from our office and make your personal appearance at the Chinese Consulate for your biometric processing. No appointment is required.

Washington, DC: Citizens of the United States holding U.S. passports that were born in Afghanistan, Iran or Nigeria will need to make a personal appearance at the embassy in order to obtain a visa. Travisa will not be able to assist you with your visa request.

Visa Processing Time:

HoustonSeasonal Processing Delays
Due to seasonal processing delays submit your visa application for China no earlier than 30 days prior to your date of arrival into China. Temporarily, Travisa will not able to process applications for entries more than 30 days in advance.
San Francisco: The Consulate of China in San Francisco will only process visas for departures within 90 days (for single-entry visas) and 180 days (for double-entry visas) of the departure date listed on the application. Applications with departure dates greater than 90 and 180 days will be rejected.

Non-refundable tickets or reservations should not be purchased until all visas and passports are secured and in your possession.
